Harley-Davidson, a giant in the field of heavy weight motorcycle industry began to assemble units in their plant in Haryana, India. Initially, Harley Davidson India, plans to market only two sportsters: Harley Davidson 883 SuperLow and Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883.

The Harley Davidson 883 SuperLow is powered by an 883cc air-cooled engine, which provides it a torque of 70Nm @ 3750rpm.

The cost of Harley Davidson 883 SuperLow is expected to be Rs.5,50,000 ($12,100) and that of Sportster Iron 883 would be Rs.6,50,000 ($14,320). Though the American pricing for both sportsters is $7,999, the Indian prices would have raised if they were shipped from the USA instead of in kits. The booking for both Sportsters is expected to open in the beginning of January 2011.

In most of the accidents happening all over the world, the cause of accident is inattention on the part of the driver. Here are a number of things that must always be remembered by a good driver. Read this and judge yourself - ARE YOU A GOOD DRIVER????
Majority of us tend to drive subconsciously while doing other things - do phone calls, chat, eat, drink, control the music system etc. The most important thing that a good driver must keep in mind is to pay attention to driving alone. Take driving seriously and concentrate. If you want to make a call or eat something while driving, park your car to the road side and have it done or postpone them until you finish driving. Why should we play with our lives as well as that of others????
The next important thing that must be kept in mind is to drive defensively, which means drive cautiously, allowing yourself space and time to react to a hazard. It aids you in physically directing your car away from harm when the need arises, and in reading traffic and predicting hazardous situations. It helps to be calm. Being agitated only slows down your judgement and reactions. This is what alcohol does as well. A clear, calm and focused mind during driving might get the time to tell you, for example, that putting your vehicle in a ditch may be better than an impending head-on-collision.
The most crucial element in these quick decisions is space. If one drives just half feet away from the car ahead of him, he is never going to have a choice. Following close results in the driver paying sharp attention to the front and ignoring other information about the traffic, which a good driver must be aware of as well. Keep a distance of a car length or more with the vehicle in front of you. Or maintain two seconds or more to the car in front of you. Another time when driving must be avoided if you can is the first rains when the roads are especially slippery because the rain washes the dust and oil embedded in the rough surface up. If you think the road is slippery, you must go slower to allow your tyres time to find purchase, and give yourself more space to stop to avoid someone in trouble ahead.
Only a small fraction of the accidents happening all over the world are caused by mechanical failure. If you suspect that you have a blown out tyre, try not to over react by applying sudden brakes. Instead, release the accelerator, hold the steering steady and keep the car going in your lane as it slows and eventually stops. Switch your hazard lamps on if you can and then slowly pull off the road.
Always keep in mind that the hazard indicators are used to indicate trouble and use them only if necessary. Remember to check your mirrors every single time before you change directions.

New BMW X1 To Be Launched In January 2011 - Technical Specifications, Features, Price

BMW, the famous German Automobile manufacturer has scheduled to launch its new SUV BMW X1 in India early in January 2011. The new compact BMW X1 is even smaller than BMW's X3.
According to BMW the new X1 will be the cheapest model in its category in India. BMW X1 is powered by a 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine which delivers a maximum power of 177BHP and maximum torque of 350Nm.



Initially, BMW plans to introduce only Rear Wheel Drive models in India. This along with the lower price makes new X1 much more competitive against other SUVs in the same segment like Audi, Mitsubishi, Toyota etc.
BMW X1 will be available in two variants - Highline and Corporate Edition. The price of new X1 is expected to be around 27 Lakhs.

Tips To Be Kept In Mind For Safe Driving - Drive Safe, Stay Alive

Driving Safely is something that everyone agrees all should do. Here are some tips to improve your driving so that you can drive safely and save your life as well as that of others:

• Wear your seat belts always even if the journey is short. Make sure all other passengers in the vehicle or at least the passengers in the front seat wears them. Wearing the seat belts is safe upto some extent in case of sudden braking unless you are at over-speed.
• Don't hesitate slowing down your vehicle whenever necessary. Don't wait upto the last moment and apply sudden brakes. Let your mind control your body.
  
• Adjust the head rest of your seat such that the top of the head rest is above or in level with the top of your head.
• Avoid allowing passengers more than the capacity of the vehicle. ie, avoid overloading the vehicle.
• Always stay under the speed limits. The allowed maximum speed in India for cars is 70km/hr and for bikes is 50km/hr.
• Don't ever try to jump a red signal and always slow down your vehicle when you see a yellow signal. Don't try to speed up your vehicle and try to pass the signal before it turns red.
• Always make sure that your windshield is clean and free of dust and fingerprints.
• Always use the turn indicator lamps when taking turns. Check your mirrors to ensure that no vehicles are at the back of your vehicle before turning.
• Don't drive like you own the road; drive like you own the car.
• Always avoid playing loud music in the car. You might miss hearing a horn or a siren.

• Always make sure that your car has enough fuel in it. Try and refill when your gauge reaches the quarter tank mark.

• Don't drive when you are drunk. Also avoid driving with someone who is drunk.
• Always ensure that all other vital fluids(eg. brake fluids, engine oil....) of your car are topped up.
• Don't mess up with the music system or any other switches while you are driving unless it is absolutely necessary.
• Be on the lookout for motorcycles while changing lanes. Don't forget to check the blind spots.
• Always engage the handbrake when the car is idle even at traffic signals to avoid moving on slopes. Remember to release the handbrake before moving the car.
• Make sure that your tyres are in good shape and properly inflated. Overinflated and underinflated tyres reduce the tread contact with the road.
• Don't use mobile phones while driving your vehicle. Slow down your car and park it to road side if any urgent calls are to be done or attended.

Keep the following things in mind while overtaking:

• Don't overtake if the lane partition line is a solid white line.
• Don't overtake if you are uncertain about enough time or space.
• Don't overtake on a curve or over a crest.
• Don't overtake as a convoy; always let the other person overtake before changing your lane.
• Overtake only if there is a dotted line.
• Overtake only if the overtaking lane is completely clear.
• Overtake only if you have enough space and time to pass safely.
• Always use indicators and headlamps while overtaking.
